STATE AND NON STATE ACTORS COOPERATION IN CONSOLIDATING AN ARCHITECTURE OF PEACE IN GREATER JOS


The European Union is made up of 28 Member States who have decided to gradually link together their know-how, resources and destinies. Together, during a period of enlargement of 50 years, they have built a zone of stability, democracy and sustainable development whilst maintaining cultural diversity, tolerance and individual freedoms. The European Union is a major player in international cooperation and development aid. It is also the world’s largest humanitarian aid donor. The primary aim of the EU’s own development policy, agreed in November 2000, is the eradication of poverty.

“The action is funded by the European Union delegation to Nigeria (EU) under the INSTRUCMENT FOR STABILITY(IFS) PROGRAMME.The project aimed to support in promoting confidence- building, mediation, dialogue and reconciliation in Plateau State, Nigeria. The action is to be implemented in five (5) local government areas of the state namely; Jos North, Jos South, Riyom, Barkin ladi and Mikang. The action is to last for a period of 18 months with a commencement date of 3rd July 2013. The action has a sole aim of contributing to a peace process in Plateau State and in particular Jos by consolidating support in strengthening architecture of peace and mechanisms of conflict resolution.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to a peace process in Plateau State and in particular in Jos by consolidating support in strengthening architecture of peace and mechanisms of conflict resolution;and the Specific Objective is to promote the creation of “architecture of peace” through an intervention aimed at improving the state of the social sectors that are crucial to the achievement of a lasting peace.

The project is funded by the EU to tune of EUR 845.582,08.

CONFLICT PREVENTION AND RESOLUTION, PEACE AND SECURITY

“The Central Role of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the strategy for a lasting peace in Jos, Plateau State/ Nigeria”. The action was funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria (EU) with a total amount of 97, 989.42 euros. The action is aimed at contributing to conflict prevention and resolution in Plateau State and in the city of Jos (areas deeply divided by religious and ethnic issues) by means of civil society dialogue”. The specific objective of the project  is to “promote and to enhance the central role of the CSOs in the peace building strategy in Jos and Plateau State. The project is on going with a duration period of 18 months and commenced on the 14/ 01/ 2013.

Our Past Projects

VOCATIONAL CENTRE

Women as seeds of development: a support to the women of the Apurimac vocational Centre aimed at strengthening the condition of women attending the course in the Apurimac Vocational Centre. The project was implemented in Jos- Plateau State/ Nigeria with the support of the Municipality of Rome with a duration period of 20/ 11/ 2009 to 20/ 10/ 2011. The cost of the action was valued at 60, 000 euros.

EDUCATION

A school for the children of Jos: improvement of the education condition in St. Monica Primary School. The action was funded by the “Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation” in Italy and implemented in Jos- Plateau State/ Nigeria with a total amount of 20, 000 euros. The action was aimed at improving the quality of eduction in the St. Monica School of Jos and lasted between 07/ 02/ 2010 to 07/ 02/ 2011.

EMERGENCY FOOD DELIVERY

“Emergency plan after the 2010 crises” The action was supported by APURIMAC with a sum total of 7, 000 euros. The action was carried out in Jos- Plateau State Nigeria for victims of the crises in the state. The action was aimed at mitigating the loss of the victims of the violence in the 3 communities of Jos mostly affected by the crisis and the action lasted between 26/ 02/ 2010 and 30/ 06/ 2010 .

The communities that benefitted from the funds under APE-AID includes;Dogo Nahawa,Dutse Uku and Rikkos.

CONFLICT PREVENTION AND RESOLUTION, PEACE AND SECURITY

Identification, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of violence- prone youths in Jos. The aim of the action is to mitigate the conflict in Jos through a programme able to keep youths away from the violence. The action which was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malta with the sum of 22, 000 euros lasted between 01/ 03/ 2012 to 31/ 01/ 2013.

The second phase of the action will commenced in August 2013 which aimed at supporting the already transformed youths with micro finance grant to start up a new busnisess according to the skills aquired during the rehabilitation period.Our intention is to turn them into crerative venture.
